About Department

Department of mechanical engineering is one of the largest department in the college of engineering at the Pune university. It enrolls more than 1150 undergraduate and 24 postgraduate students. There are 65 dedicated faculty members. The mechanical engineering department educates the engineers of tomorrow by integrating classroom theory and practical hands on project, by emphasizing the process of learning and critical thinking, by conducting original research, and by promoting professional relationships among the university, the business community, and engineering colleagues.
As a mechanical engineering student, you are part of a stimulating learning community of highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students, energetic educators, creative researchers, and a dedicated staff. As an undergraduate working toward your bachelor’s degree, you learn the science and engineering principles of designing and building machines, structures, components, power trains, pumps, compressors, turbines, engines, power plant, furnaces, refrigerators, air conditioners, and more. In addition to the formal classes, you can join exciting student project teams that build robots, human-powered vehicles, and experimental cars.

Program Outcome (PO)

PO1: An ability to apply knowledge of computing, mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals appropriate to design, thermal and manufacturing problems.
PO2: Ability to identify the problems and provide solutions by using first principles, of engineering science, mathematics and numerical methods.
PO3: An ability to design solution for thermal, hydraulics and machining systems and design components and processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for factor of safety, societal and environmental aspects.
PO4: An ability to investigate solutions of complex problems by conducting experiments, simulating, computing and analyzing data provide valid findings and conclusion
PO5: An ability to use modern tools engineering tools and technologies necessary for obtaining quick, economical and accurate solutions of engineering problems.
PO6: An ability to analyse the local and global impact of mechanical system on individuals, organisation and society.
